Macro photography, or simply put, close up photography, is usually capturing a subject at a close range. It is one of the popular fields of photography. You can easily take 'macro' photos with just an ordinary camera.
Well, here are some of my macro-shots. These were taken with my point and shoot, just another one similar to yours.

So, here's how you do it.
First of all, find a subject for you to shoot. Be it anything. Take your camera, and choose macro mode. It shouldn't be hard to find.
Try to focus your subject by half pressing the shutter. If you have a Manual focus option, it's your advantage. If not, try to focus it again.
Once you have it focused properly(without any distractions in the background) press the shutter fully. Bingo! You've got yourself a macro shot. Pretty easy, ain't it? Remember, your creativity is all that matters..
Feel free to suggest something or ask questions in the comments..
Best of luck!

One additional tip:
Try to avoid flash when taking macro shots. Your lens can block the one-camera flash and the picture may come out awkward, only half filled with flash.
